ROLE OF MOTHER TONGUE IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMME

Abstract

Mother tongue education refers to any form of education that makes use of the language or languages that the learners are most familiar with. This paper therefore tends to examine the what adult education is all about, teaching and learning, needs for Adult education using mother tongue, Aims and objective of teaching in adult education centers using mother tongue, the role of mother tongue, benefits of learning in mother tongue among adult learners. This paper concludes by emphasizing on the importance of using mother tongue in teaching in our adult centers. Suggestions were made encouraging the federal government, teachers of adult learners, and adult learners themselves to use mother tongue in their teaching and learning process
