MORPHOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF HAUSA WORD FORMATION

Abstract

When learning a language, the first items we learn are the names of things. Every language identifies things by naming them. A word formation is a linguistic phenomenon, which deals with the ways in which language create new words. In Hausa, like any other languages, there are two major types of morphological analysis: derivational and inflectional. Our focus here shall be on the former. Discussion will be based on affixation, reduplication, borrowing, compounding, clipping, alternation/vowel change, as they affect Hausa language.
